Beyonce Mom Tina Knowles Galveston Beach House Demolition: Final Notice

Beyonce Mom Tina Knowles Galveston Beach House Demolition

In July 2024, Tina Knowles, mother of pop icon Beyoncé, received a violation notice from the City of Galveston regarding her beachfront property in the Pirates Beach community. The notice cited the home as “potentially unsafe” due to significant deterioration, decay, and erosion. The city mandated that Knowles submit a permit application with remediation plans within 10 days or face corrective action through Municipal Court.

The property, valued at $1.4 million, suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Ike in 2008. Since then, it has remained in disrepair, prompting concerns from neighbors and city officials about its structural integrity and safety. Councilwoman Marie Robb emphasized the urgency, stating, “Considering it’s 2024 and Hurricane Ike was in 2008, I’d say we’ve given them more than ample time to respond.”

Despite previous offers from the Texas General Land Office, including a $150,000 buyout to relocate the property, no action has been taken to address the violations. The city has indicated that if the required safety measures are not implemented promptly, a demolition order could be issued within 60 days.

This situation underscores the challenges of maintaining coastal properties vulnerable to natural disasters and highlights the importance of timely remediation to ensure community safety.

The house stands alone where a row of homes once stood. The rest of the row washed away more than a decade ago. Why has it taken so long for the this dangerous structure to be condemned?
