Bubba Gump Shrimp Company is based on the character in Paramount Pictures 1995 hit “Forest Gump” and opened the first location in 1996. A few years later, Landry’s Inc. acquired the chain.
Bubba Gump’s in Galveston opened along with the freshly renovated and revamped Historic Pleasure Pier – formerly the home of Flagship Hotel which was destroyed during Hurricane Ike in 2008.
The restaurant is a family friendly place that is known for, well, shrimp! Unfortunately, this location does not use Gulf fresh shrimp like many other Galveston Island restaurants. But with the location and tourist appeal, this boat-themed spot might be something you just have to try.
They serve other seafood in addition to Southern and Cajun cuisine. The restaurant has dishes named after characters in the movie, like Jenny’s Catch and the restaurant’s bestseller Forrest’s Seafood Feast.
The atmosphere is fun, they display movie memorabilia throughout the restaurant. Guests sometimes enjoy playing Forrest Gump movie trivia and some signal their waiter with a “Stop, Forrest” Stop sign.
A unique advantage of the Galveston locatin is that you can step right out of the restaurant right onto the historic Pleasure Pier amusement park right over the Gulf of Mexico.
From Bubba Gump Reviews Online:
The food was good but a bit pricey. The wait staff was friendly. We could look out and see the beach and water from our table. Some of the adults had a drink which they were pleased with especially since they got to keep the glass as a souvenir. There was a place to buy souvenirs in front of the restaurant if you had to wait on a table.
Wonderful food, we ordered a variety of dishes and shared so we could all enjoy the variety. Beautiful view, Great staff, clean restaurant.
The location is right on the Galveston Beach, so the views were beautiful. Our waiter was really nice and very attentive to our needs. Our order came out fast and hot. I had to send my drink back, it was way to sweet to my liking. They do offer military discounts, so don’t forget to show ID and ask.
Our experience was good and I would try them again for seafood or any of the yummy soups. Parking is found on the side of streets or paid parking lots. Good Luck, alot of tourist on a Saturday morning.
This place was AMAZING!! I was so excited to go with my family since it was my very first time at a Bubba Gump. The food was the best I’ve ever had at a shrimp place! I definitely recommend 100%. The staff was amazing and I loved the atmosphere.
