City of Galveston Gears Up for Freezing Weather

Galveston Gears Up for Freezing Weather Next Week
Hey Galveston, get ready for some chilly temps! A cold front is moving in Saturday night, with freezing temperatures expected Monday night through Tuesday. While Galveston should hover around 32°F, parts of southeast Texas could see snow and ice starting Monday evening.
The City is on top of it, working with the National Weather Service and prepping departments to handle the cold. But they’re asking us all to take care of the four Ps: People, Pets, Plants, and Pipes.
- Dress warm and stay inside if you can. Use space heaters safely—keep them 3 feet away from anything flammable.
- Bring pets inside and limit outdoor time to quick potty breaks.
- Protect your pipes by wrapping exposed ones, draining irrigation systems, and opening under-sink cabinets to let the heat in.
If you need water shut off temporarily to prevent leaks, call 409-797-3630. The City’s new water meter system will also help spot leaks quickly.
While CenterPoint Energy is working to prevent power outages, the City advises power-dependent residents to have a backup plan. A warming center could open if outages become widespread, so stay tuned for updates.
If there’s ice or snow, avoid driving unless absolutely necessary. Keep an eye on the National Weather Service for the latest info. Stay safe, Galveston! 🌬️
