As one local reviewer commented, you go to Fisherman’s Wharf for the view! Located right on the water along the pier in Galveston, the restaurant is a couple of blocks from the historic Strand district, the cruise terminal, and the Tall Ship Elissa – plenty of awesome photo opportunities for sharing online.

You’ll find the place on Harborside Drive near the Pier 21 area, you can’t miss it. While Galveston locals are not big on chain restaurants, visitors rave about the food. It’s one of those places that you have to try at least once. Interestingly, this site was once the location for a shrimp and fish factory where Gulf shrimp was prepared for shipment around the country.

The favorite choices from the menu are Shrimp Kisses which are shrimp that are stuffed with jalapeno pepper jack cheese, wrapped in bacon and fried. They do have some fresh fish choices but you need to ask your server which options are gulf fresh because not all of them on the menu are freshly prepared. If the golden tile fish is available, give it a try because it is mouthwatering and flavorful – highly recommended.

Aside from shrimp kisses the most popular items are crab cakes, fried calamari, and grilled shrimp. As simple as it sounds, the fish and chips are delicious. For the kids you’ll find a menu that has options other than seafood such as burgers and grilled cheese sandwich. French fries, rice and veggies and baked potatoes are the standard sides on most plates.

More menu choices include seafood platters, chicken dishes, as well as pasta and steak options. They also have an all-day extensive happy hour menu but again you must request a seat in the “Happy Hour” area. Not all parts of the restaurant offer happy hour food and prices.

Don’t be in a hurry, your experience at Fisherman’s Wharf in Galveston is meant to be leisurely so take it all in. There are several dining areas and all of them offer amazing views of Galveston Bay so get your camera ready! You don’t always need a reservation but you should definitely call ahead and check. The wait to be seated can be over an hour during peak times of the year.

Notes: There is a full bar, all day happy hour specials, and vegetarian or vegan options on the menu.
