On October 18-19, 2024, Galveston welcomed beachcombers and nature enthusiasts to the 29th Annual International Sea-Bean Symposium and Beachcombers’ Festival. Held at Ashton Villa, the event celebrated the unique drift seeds known as sea beans that wash ashore from tropical regions.

The symposium featured expert presentations, educational displays, and contests for rare finds. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the origins and journeys of sea beans, as well as their ecological significance. The event also included a share table, encouraging participants to trade or share their beach treasures.

Open to the public and free of charge, the festival aimed to foster a deeper appreciation for coastal ecosystems and the natural treasures they offer.

Galveston has an active beachcombing community who participate in the event and look forward to future gatherings that continue to highlight these wonders of the sea.
