City of Galveston Auctions Land Near Airport

Galveston Real Estate Investment Opportunity: Scholes International Airport Land Up for Bid
Galveston is opening bidding on two prime land parcels near Scholes International Airport, providing a unique real estate investment opportunity. These properties—a 5.5-acre tract and a 26.3-acre tract—are ready for development, making this a golden chance to invest in one of Texas’ most sought-after coastal communities.
Strategic Development with Community-First Guidelines
The city has placed thoughtful restrictions to ensure these developments enhance the local economy and benefit the community:
- 48-Month Development Requirement – Developers must begin construction within four years, or the property will revert to the city.
- Revenue-Generating Projects Only – Tax-exempt developments are restricted, ensuring growth contributes to the city’s financial health.
- No Short-Term Rentals – Any residential projects must be for long-term housing, preserving Galveston’s community-driven atmosphere.
Historic Land with Future Potential
The 26.3-acre tract has been managed by Scholes International Airport since its acquisition through a U.S. government indenture release in 1949. With FAA approval, it is now available for development. Proceeds from its sale will fund airport infrastructure improvements. Meanwhile, the 5.5-acre tract, purchased by the city in 2017, will contribute to Galveston’s general fund.
