From the website:
“In our devoted love for this historic and vibrant city we call Galveston, Carriage Haus Rentals is proud to provide a prototype of the famed 1908 Ford Model-T. This golf cart vehicle truly pays homage to Henry Ford, retaining much of his noble and charming vision.”

“It must have been a real marvel to see hundreds of Model-T’s lined up all along the seawall back in the early 1900’s as their owners enjoyed a wonderful day at the beach.”

“Veronica and Brett Von Blon (owners of Carriage Haus Rentals) hope that driving our electric golf carts around town will bring you back to a much simpler place in time.”

Cart operators must be hold a valid state driver license. You should definitely familiarize yourself with local rules and know without exception which streets are okay and those that you are not allowed to drive on with a golf cart.

The spring time means the beginning of the busy tourism season. Traffic increases and travel times are longer, but the streets on Galveston Island that have a 35 mph speed limit are wide open for golf carts. This includes Seawall Boulevard and most of the numbered streets.

On Seawall golf carts are allowed between 6th Street and 61st Street. You are not allowed to travel west of 61st on the seawall, nor east of 6th Street. All together that covers a good five miles or so and includes most of the places you’d visit to eat, have fun, or play at the beach.

Golf carts are NOT allowed on Avenue O or Avenue P. These roads are meant to be thru-ways on the island and traffic moves faster on these streets. Otherwise the speed limit dictates where golf carts can and cannot be on the roads. Golf carts are not allowed on 61st Street, Broadway (Avenue J), or Harborside Drive. Also you are not allowed to drive a golf cart on any streets in Galveston with speed limits over 35.

How much does it cost to rent a golf cart in Galveston?

There are a few golf cart rental dealers on the island. The one you chose is really dependent on where you are located. Of course you want to select a reputable dealer with good reviews, but most of them limit where they allow their carts to be used.

Basically, golf cart rentals are divided into East End and West End of Galveston Island.

The best and most honest answer to the frequently asked question is “it depends”…and it really depends on a few different factors. Also, some offer delivery-only while others offer no delivery at all.

  • Time of Year: Golf cart rentals are less expensive during winter “off season” months.
  • Size of Cart: 2-seater, 4-seater, 6-seater, 8-seater. Not all are available from each location.
  • Length of Rental: weekly rates are more economical, but hourly and daily rates are available.
  • Age of Renter: some rentals require a deposit for younger drivers (age 21-25)
  • Delivery: some offer free delivery, some are delivery-only, and one that has no delivery at all.

Since prices fluctuate and are based on many different factors, the best way to find the price of renting a golf cart in Galveston is to just call for availability and rates. We’ve included contact information here for all of the island golf cart rental agencies.

Are golf carts street legal in Galveston?

Yes, you should probably take a look at the Galveston City Ordinance regarding golf carts. You must be a licensed driver and each rental location has it’s own rules regarding age and insurance requirements. You should definitely call ahead or otherwise reach out for requirements. Golf carts cannot be driven on sidewalks, you must wear a seatbelt, you may not exceed the number of passengers designated for your cart size.

There are hefty fines for violating the city ordinance, so be sure to follow all of the galveston golf cart rules. Costs can be around $250 per violation. In addition to local laws you must follow all the “rules of the road” – remember that not all drivers are accustomed to interacting with golf carts on the road. Be sure to keep that in mind for any Galveston golf cart rental, and your island fun will be even better.
