Galveston Mardi Gras Future Dates
Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday”, which historically reflected the religous practice of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual Lenten sacrifices and fasting of the Lenten season.
Today, Mardi Gras relates to the celebration period known as Carnival which begins on Three Kings Day and ends the day before Ash Wednesday.
Easter is on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the
Spring Equinox. The date for Easter Sunday falls in the range somewhere from March 23 to April 25. Ash Wednesday is always 46 days before Easter and Fat Tuesday (“Mardi Gras” in French) is always the day before Ash Wednesday.
