The Spot, initially started in 1998, was purchased by Byrd in 2002 who had worked his way up from a dishwasher to cook. He learned everything he need to know about the business, and he accomplished his dream of owning a restaurant by purchasing the same one and the only one he had ever worked in.

The Spot Reviews from around the web:

Yummy food with a great view. There was plenty of safety precautions, and no one was on the beautiful upstairs patio. I only wish someone dropped your food off to you instead of you having to go get it downstairs. Someone did however bring our appetizers up. The hamburgers were giant and my family really enjoyed the waffle fries. My fried shrimp and onion rings were fantastic as well. Drinks were good, and on par for pricing on the seawall. Queso and chips were also good. We didn’t get to eat dessert, and after seeing the counter, I regret it! Next time!

Fun spot to watch a storm roll in. We happened by this place on a cold rainy afternoon, but it was still comfortable with the clear plastic rain “curtains” drawn and it was fun to watch the storm roll in. The place is huge, with several levels and dining areas of varying “outdoors-ness” The food was surprisingly good and plentiful for being such a beach bar. The employees were friendly and attentive.

Its got something for everyone. We went to the Spot and went straight to the top level which had a bar, firepit and nice view of the water. Note : you have to climb stairs. The service was not great. It was typical bar pricing and took a while to get served but we had a good time nonetheless. It has a nice ambiance.

It wasn’t to crowded which was good! The downstairs was more family-friendly, and had burgers, shakes and ice cream on the menu so I guess there is something for everyone. It’s in a convenient location right on the strand of you would to do some sightseeing after, and walk off the meal. It’s great.

A slightly more upscale version of the original, you have to try Shrimp ‘N Stuff Downtown!

Any time you are in the entertainment district of Galveston Island or shopping along Strand, stop in for lunch or dinner at Saltwater Grill, a local establishment with great food and drinks!
